Microsoft Studios has released a statement today that they’ve bought the entire Gears of War franchise from Epic Games. No official dollar figures have been released yet but I’m sure it wasn’t cheap. The acquisition also includes rights to all existing and future video games, entertainment experiences and all merchandise rights.
Some top talent was hired into new roles. In addition to the acquisition, they also stated that Black Tusk Studios in Vancouver, BC will take over development of the “Gears of War” franchise and that Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production at Epic Games will be hired on by Microsoft to play a key studio role on the development of the franchise.
